My First Cold
Hayden has been feeling a little under the weather this week.
It started early this past week with a dry stuffy nose. We figured since it has been so dry he was just a little stuffed.
On Thursday Hayden developed a muscousy cough and his dry stuffed nose turned to a wet stuffed nose. I called HealthLink (a call in line where you can talk to a Registered Nurse) and since he had a cough they suggested I take him to a doctor. Because he is so little, his lungs aren't fully developed yet so a cough can do a lot of damage, especially if they are full of mucous. After taking him to the doctor, they determined that his chest, lungs, and ears were clear and that I was supposed to take his temperature every 2 hours and keep him hydrated to help him fight it.
He had a rough night because he was having trouble breathing through his nose and was up every half an hour. That was not fun!!!!!
Friday morning his cough had gotten more frequent and sounded a lot worse so I called HealthLink again. They suggested I take him back to Urgent Care to check his chest again. We waited an hour or so before someone saw us. They listened to his chest, checked his ears, and took his temperature. He had a slight temperature and, if he could tell us, a sore throat! They gave him some liquid Infant Tempra and told me to watch him again. His chest was clear, but he would have to fight off the congestion. He slept really well last night... almost 6 hours! And has had a few hour/hour and a half naps today.
As of this morning his temperature is completely normal, but he is still coughing and stuffed up. It is starting to break as his nose is running a little now, so hopefully it won't be much longer til the whole illness goes away.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and wishes... and hopefully he will be better soon!
